Royal Enfield

Here is a '68 Royal Enfield. Pretty cool skoot. If you like the style of this bike you can pick up a new one made on the same machines in the same factory they were made in back in 1955. The factory was in India, even though the company was English. The factory was built to serve Asia and Russia then sat empty for 40 years, but was fired back up starting churning out new (old) bikes in 1995. The bikes are exactly as they were in 1955. They look great and are only $5,000. Would cost a hell of a lot more than that to find, and rebuild one. Here is a link http://www.royalenfield.com/

Get Low

O.K. ... So it is not a motorcycle, But it is damn cool! I would love for something like this to be my next project. Not sure if I have the patients or the money to make it happen, but I am willing to give it a shot. Anyone have a garage they are not planning on using for the next 5 years?

Would love to have more pics of cool low riders like this one, if you have one send it over to me. tdoolittle@kc.rr.com

BSA

Here is a kool BSA Chop I clipped off the Dutchman's site. I think those Euros have the right idea. Clean, simple bikes, no snakes, skulls, or gay ass dragons painted on their bikes like so many of the American builders. These bikes are about the mechanics, not the chrome, $400 an ounce paint or the stenciled gas tanks. Those people need to spend less time washing their bikes and more time riding and wrenching them. A bike like this will get a lot more respect from me than the other shit, all it takes to get a bike like that is a checkbook. One like this takes digging through the piles of old parts at the swap, late nights on e-bay, and a toolbox. But I digress, hope you enjoy.

So, this week we are returning to where my heart lies, the Triumph choppers. I think this one is sweet, hella paint job, the white seat rocks. Loving the white walls, everything about it is pretty sweet. What do you think? Leave a comment win a free sucker. Sucker.

Cleveland

Here is an old one for ya. I have no idea what year it is but it is called a Cleveland. The thing that makes this cool is the mechanical parts. Check out the Speedo drive gear set-up in the middle picture not to mention the motor a straight 4 cylinder, crazy. Here is what I could find out about the company courtesy of Bikernet.com

"According to the 'Encyclopedia of the Motorcycle' by Hugo Wilson Clevelands were built by Egerton Price in Middlesborough, England, from 1911 to 1914 using Precision engines. Freddie Dixon made his TT debut in 1912 aboard a Cleveland machine. Then in 1915, the Cleveland Motorcycle Manufacturing Co. began production of a 13.5 cubic inch, two-stroke single with in-line crankshafts and chain final drive in the United States. Later, capacity was increased to a whopping 16.5 cubic inches and they sold well. In 1922, Cleveland bought the Reading Standard Co., and in '24 a 21.5 cubic inch side-valve single was introduced. It bombed. In 1925, a 36.5-inch, four-cylinder machine, based on the Fowler Four design, was introduced. It failed to compete with larger-capacity Henderson and Ace fours. In 1926, a redesigned 45-inch four appeared and subsequently a 61-inch version, but despite the fine quality injected into each model in 1926, the company was forced out of business when the stock market crashed"

Vincent Black Shadow

So this is the new home of the bike of the week!! And here is this week's post........

A 1951?? Vincent Black Shadow. This bike was for the wealthy (and ball-sy) crowd. It was incredibly expensive and very fast. Over 100 mph. That was unheard of at the time.

Now that the riding season is over, it is time for those of us who ride older bikes to do yearly maintenance, maybe throw down that paint job you have been talking about for 3 years. Or fix that oil leak that has ruined your driveway, 3 pairs of pants your pride.......so get busy!!

For the rest of you who ride new bikes it is time to call the dealership to find out how to winterize your bike or which accessories you need to purchase to stay in their good graces.

Be thinking, better yet, fantasizing about those Spring rides, where are we going? I am in!

See ya next week......
